Halo: Unpopular Opinion

I recently read the Halo books and absolutely loved them.

I personally preferred the ones written by Eric Nylund, because they were better at making promises early on and maintaining a cohesive plot, while the book by William C. Diet did an exceptional job at imparting the feel of a video game, with all of its twists and turns. I think I might have enjoyed William’s writing more if I had expected that going into it.

But all in all, the series was superb. Halo was my favorite Xbox game growing up, and diving into the lore in this series was extremely nostalgic.

Unpopular opinion: Give up.

Stop trying.

Move on.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “Never give up” or “It’s always worth it.”

I’m here to tell you it’s not.

If you’ve been working towards a goal that you’re not passionate about anymore, let me give you the power to change your mind.

If you have the same annual resolution, but you never resolve your goal, you can change your mind.

Life happens. Things get in the way of accomplishing goals. And, if your goals are ultimately just one more thing to be critical of yourself, change your mind.

This is one of the things I loved about the Halo books. You have the most competent warriors in the history of ever and in the end, they’re forced to question whether their goal of protecting humanity is worth it, or if they need to take a different approach. I’ll let you read the books to find out what they decide.

Be intentional about the goals you set. That may mean setting fewer goals. Or it may mean setting more incremental goals.

Instead of setting a goal to lose weight, why not set a goal to learn to cook healthy food? Or start a low intensity workout program? Maybe learn some fun stretches.

Or, if you want to set a goal to read more, you can start by following me and interacting with my posts. 😉

I cannot support you in beating yourself up because you set a goal with insufficient information.

But I will support you in any goal you’re passionate about. DM me and I’ll be your biggest cheerleader.

Just remember to be kind to yourself. I like you.
